When you’re searching for a health coach to guide your wellness journey, credentials can make all the difference.
As a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), I bring both expertise and credibility to help you achieve your health goals. Here’s why being board-certified matters and how it benefits you as a client.
What Does Board Certification Mean?
The NBC-HWC designation is the gold standard in health coaching. It is awarded by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) in partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME). This credential ensures that a coach meets rigorous national standards and has been trained in evidence-based practices, including behavior change, motivational interviewing, and chronic disease management.
Since health coaching is not yet regulated, anyone can call themselves a health coach. However, being board-certified demonstrates a higher level of competency and dedication. It shows clients that I’ve gone the extra mile to meet the highest industry standards.
Why I Pursued Board Certification
After earning certifications in integrative nutrition, hormone health, yoga, plant-based cooking and many other credentials, I wanted to set myself apart in a growing field. I wanted to ensure my clients received the best support possible by aligning my expertise with the medical community. Achieving board certification was a way to do that.
The process to become board-certified was rigorous. It included over 1200 hours of studying, 500 flashcards, and extensive training in positive psychology, behavioral psychology, coaching theories, and chronic disease management. Passing the challenging NBC-HWC exam affirmed my commitment to helping clients make lasting lifestyle changes.
How It Benefits You
Board certification is more than just a title—it’s a commitment to your success. Here’s how it makes a difference:
Expertise You Can Trust
With board certification, you can feel confident that you’re working with someone who has met the most stringent standards in the industry.
Tailored Solutions
As a board-certified coach, I specialize in helping clients tackle challenges like weight loss, hormonal imbalances, gut health, autoimmune conditions, and stress management.
Sustainable Change
I use proven methods, like motivational interviewing, to empower you to make changes that stick. Together, we focus on creating a personalized plan that aligns with your life.
Collaborative Care
Whether you’re managing chronic conditions or seeking to optimize your wellness, I can work alongside your healthcare providers to ensure a seamless, supportive approach.
Why Board Certification Matters in the Industry
As health coaching becomes more integrated into healthcare, board certification sets a standard of excellence. In clinical settings, such as hospitals or doctor’s offices, it’s often a prerequisite for employment. For independent coaches, like me, it provides a competitive edge—especially in niches like menopause health, lifestyle medicine, and behavior change.
This certification demonstrates not only competency but also a commitment to advancing the field of health coaching. It assures clients and healthcare providers that I’m equipped to support sustainable behavior change and improved health outcomes.
A Rewarding Journey
Nothing is more rewarding than helping clients achieve their goals, whether it’s increasing energy, improving sleep, reducing medications, or simply feeling more confident in their own skin. As an NBC-HWC, I’m equipped with the tools, knowledge, and skills to guide you toward success.
