Let’s teach our children the beauty of our breath.
1. Breathing properly is fundamental to good health and we shouldn’t take our respiratory system for granted, especially if you live in a city with lots of cars, trucks, buses.
2. The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply the blood with oxygen in order for the blood to deliver oxygen to all parts of the body. The respiratory system does this through breathing. When we breathe, we inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. This exchange of gases is the respiratory system’s means of getting oxygen to the blood.
3.Don’t smoke. Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable diseases. Smoking can cause lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.
4. Exercise. The type of exercise that gets your heart pumping and lungs breathing! Try jogging in place, go for a walk/run. Do some high leg kicks for 3 minutes. Share different ways your kids and you can get you lungs working harder.
5. Practice daily deep breathing exercises. Air can remain in your lungs for up to 30 days or longer, yuck! It is important to practice deep breathing everyday. So a good time to teach your family to practice deep breathing is when they step outside first thing in the morning. Take 5 deep breaths in through your nose, hold for 5 seconds and and 5 deep breaths out of your nose.
Breathe Happily Ever After!
